He was an unmarried student from Huntsville, AL when he enlisted as Private 26 April 1861 in Company I, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was in action at From First to Second Manassas, VA.

He was with his Company on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was in action from Fredericksburg, VA in December to Hog Mountain, AL where he was captured in action in October 1863. He was still a prisoner on the roll of 1 January 1865.
