He was an unmarried 20 year old farmer from Scottsboro, AL when he enlisted as Private on 27 April 1861 in Company K, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was in action from First to Second Manassas, VA.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was in action from Fredericksburg, VA in December to Gettysburg, PA where he was mortally wounded in action on 2 July 1863. He was buried on Edward Plank's farm and his remains, with those of 98 other soldiers, were reinterred in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, VA, in August 1872.
