He was a married farmer from Larkinsville, AL when he enlisted as Private on 20 August 1861 in Company K, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was in action from First to Second Manassas, VA.

He was with his Company on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was in action from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 to Knoxville, TN where he was captured on 26 November 1863.
