He enlisted as Private in Company C (renamed I), 6th Alabama Infantry on 20 April 1861. He was appointed 3rd Lieutenant immediately, and 2nd Lieutenant on 23 April. He was elected Captain at the reorganization on 27 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action in the Sunken Road at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
