Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Company G, 6th Alabama Infantry, on 15 April 1861 at Independence, AL (or 2 June 1861 at Corinth, MS).
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was furloughed to Milton, AL to the end of December 1862. He was appointed Sergeant on 1 February 1863 and was wounded again, in the left forearm at Gettysburg, PA, in July 1863. He was at Chimborazo Hospital #4 (15 July) then Howard's Grove Hospital (9 August), both in Richmond, VA. He was furloughed home on 17 September. He was in the General Hospital with a gunshot wound ("vulnus sclopetarium") at Selma, AL from 27 November 1863 to 28 December 1864. He was detailed to the Ordnance Department at Gordonsville, VA by February 1865. He was captured in Knoxville, TN on 26 April 1865 and took the oath on 16 June 1865 at Louisville, KY.
