From Dodgeville, he enlisted in Company H, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 6 May 1861, and was appointed Corporal.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was again wounded, in action at Chancellorsville, VA. He mustered out at the expiration of his term on 14 July 1864.
