Before Sharpsburg

He mustered as Private in Company E, First Texas Infantry on 6 June 1861 in New Orleans and was promoted to 5th Sergeant, date not given. He was wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862 and he was promoted to First Sergeant in July.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the shoulder in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, on 6 May 1864 in the Wilderness, VA.
