Before Sharpsburg

He mustered as Private in Company E, First Texas Infantry on 6 June 1861 in New Orleans. He was captured by enemy cavalry while scouting near Dumfries, VA in March 1862 and was exchanged 5 August.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the leg in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was detailed to the signal service in February 1863 then as a courier at Brigade Headquarters. He was paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 12 April 1865.
