Before Antietam
From Waupun, he enlisted in Company D, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 25 April 1861.
On the Campaign
He was color bearer for the Regiment by the end of the action on 17 September 1862 after all of the Color Guard had been killed or wounded.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, and First Sergeant, dates not given. He mustered out with his Company on 18 July 1865.
