Before Sharpsburg

A 20 year old farmer from Hopkinsville, he enlisted in Company A, 8th Alabama Infantry on 8 May 1861. He was present at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Gaines' Mill, Frazier's Farm, and 2nd Manassas in 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged in January 1863 and again wounded, slightly, at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May. Captured again at Gettysburg on 2 July 1863. He was listed as a deserter at the Wilderness, VA on 6 or 7 May 1864, but he had enlisted in Company F, 3rd Maryland Cavalry (US) at Fort Delaware on 22 September 1863. He was listed as a deserter from the 3rd Cavalry on 19 July 1865.
