A married 25 year old farmer from Pritchett, he enlisted in Company A, 8th Alabama Infantry on 10 May 1861. He was appointed 5th Sergeant on 1 August 1862. He was present at Yorktown, Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, Fraziers Farm, and 2nd Manassas in 1862.

The rest of the War

He was at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Wilderness. He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on 1 April 1863 and 2nd Sergeant 1 February 1864. He was killed in action at Spotsylvania, VA on 12 May 1864.
