An unmarried 26 year old laborer from Radsfordville, he enrolled in Company A, 8th Alabama Infantry on 8 May 1861. He was present at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, Fraziers Farm, and 2nd Manassas in 1862.

On the Campaign

He was present at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

Except for Gettysburg, PA in July 1863, when he was absent, sick, he was in all engagements with his Company from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 through Petersburg in December 1864. He was promoted Corporal "for gallantry" in April 1863.
