Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 26 year old farmer, he enlisted as 4th Corporal, 8th Alabama Infantry on 8 May 1861. He was promoted to First Sergeant on 23 May 1861. He was commissioned Jr. 2nd Lieutenant on 23 April 1862, and First Lieutenant later in 1862. He was present at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, Fraziers Farm, and 2nd Manassas in 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was in all engagements with his Company from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 through Petersburg in mid-1864, at least. He was promoted to Captain on 15 December 1864.
