Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Company A, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 29 December 1861 at Adams Run, SC at age 25.

On the Campaign

He was wounded, his right hip fractured, in action at Fox's Gap, and captured there on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Treated at the US General Hospital #5 at Frederick, MD, in November and December, then to General Hospital #1. Transferred to the US General Hospital, Baltimore, MD 10 February 1863. Paroled at City Point, VA, and admitted to the General Hospital at Petersburg, VA 18 February. Furloughed home and again hospitalized, in July 1863 at Columbia, SC. He was killed in action at Spotsylvania, VA on 8 May 1864.
