Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 16 year old living with his parents, 5 siblings, and 3 slaves on their farm at Power's Shop in the Laurens District, SC. He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 1 December 1861 in Columbia, SC.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was treated at a US General Hospital, Frederick, MD, the at the Methodist Church Hospital, Alexandria, VA. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA on 31 October and exchanged at Aikens Landing, VA on 2 November. He was then at Howards Grove Hospital, Richmond, VA with pneumonia, and returned to duty on 27 November 1862. He was killed in action at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863.
After the War
He was originally buried on the battlefield, but removed in 1867 or 1869 by the State of Georgia and buried at the Confederate Cemetery, Marietta, GA.
