He enlisted in Company E, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 2 January 1862 at Columbia, SC at age 31.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 14 September 1862 at Fox's Gap.

The rest of the War

He was at the General Hospital #27, Richmond, VA until furloughed home on 18 October. He returned to duty in February 1863. He was discharged 20 June 1863.
