He enlisted as Corporal in Company C, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 2 December 1861 at Columbia, SC at age 28. Elected brevet 2nd Lieutenant on 1 May 1862.

On the Campaign

Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded in action at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863 and furloughed home. He returned to duty in March 1864. He was paroled at Greensboro, NC on 2 May 1865 as 2nd Lieutenant, Company F, 3rd South Carolina Infantry.

After the War

Living in Honea Path, Anderson County, SC in November 1915.
