He enlisted in Company F, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Regiment on 14 April 1861 at Laurens, SC at age 22. He was in Virginia hospitals, sick, from April to July 1861, and discharged 11 August 1862. He then enlisted in Company B, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 16 August at "Gordonsville", VA.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 14 September 1862 at Fox's Gap.
