Before Sharpsburg
A married 30 year old from the Laurens District, he enlisted in Company D, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 11 December 1861 in Columbia, SC. Promoted Corporal by August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was appointed Sergeant on 15 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded very severely in the right arm in action at Deep Bottom, VA on 28 July 1864. He was admitted to the General Hospital #9, Richmond, VA 30 July and furloughed home 1 September 1864.
After the War
Moved to Newberry from Laurens, SC in 1891. He died in 1897 from the "effects of a carbuncle on his neck."
