Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Company D, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 20 December 1861 at Columbia, SC at about age 20. He was detached to man a battery at Pineberry, Edisto Island, SC in February 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded and captured in action at Fox's Gap on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Held at Fort Delaware, he was sent to Aikens' Landing, VA and exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was paroled at Greensboro, NC on 2 May 1865 as Private, Company E, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Regiment.
