Before Sharpsburg

He was commissioned First Lieutenant, Company A, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Regiment on 25 November 1861 at age 27, and was detailed as acting Commissary in December. He was appointed Captain on 31 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the US General Hospital #1, Frederick, MD, sent to Ft. Delaware, then to Aikens' Landing, VA and formally exchanged on 10 November 1862. He commanded the Battalion at Chickamauga, GA, and was killed in action there on 20 September 1863.
