A married 33 year old schoolmaster and farmer, he enlisted as Private in Company B, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Regiment before 6 January 1861 at Columbia, SC.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Fox' Gap on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was sent to Aikens Landing, VA and exchanged there on 6 October 1862. He was in hospital in Richmond, VA and returned to duty on 8 December 1862. He was mortally wounded in action at Knoxville, TN on 18 November 1863.
