Before Antietam

He enlisted in Company I, 8th Ohio Infantry on 10 August 1861 at age 25 as Corporal.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the elbow in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the Hoffman Hospital at Sharpsburg, MD. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 20 January 1863, and transferred to Company A, 4th Ohio Battalion 13 July 1864. He was appointed Regimental Quartermaster 20 September 1864, and Captain, Company A on 2 June 1865. He mustered out with his Company on 12 July 1865.

After the War

He was living in Pennsylvania at the 1870 and 1880 US Censuses, and in Olean, NY at the 1905 NY State Census. He was listed as a timekeeper in a barrel factory, living at 816 Washington St, Olean, NY in a 1901 city directory.
