Before Antietam

A 39 year old carpenter, he enlisted in Philadelphia on 30 May 1861. He mustered into service as Sergeant, Company A, 12th Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 October in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He reenlisted on 21 December 1863 and transferred to Company H, 190th Pennsylvania Infantry on 31 May 1864. He was captured at Weldon Railroad on 19 August 1864 and released on 9 March 1865. He was discharged on 13 June 1865.
