Before Antietam

A 34 year old puddler (iron worker) in East Bridgewater, MA, he enlisted there on 18 May 1861 and mustered in as a Private in Company C, 29th Massachusetts Infantry on 22 May. He was wounded at Savage's Station, VA on 29 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his left foot or toe in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #8 (Camp A) in Frederick, MD on 12 October 1862 and was discharged there for disability due to a prolapsed anus on 11 March 1863.
