He enlisted on 29 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company A, 8th Connecticut Infantry on 25 September.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was transferred to Company E of the 20th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps on 17 October 1863, promoted to Corporal two days later, and to Sergeant on 25 December. He was discharged on 26 September 1864.
