Before Antietam
Age 21, he enlisted on 1 October 1861 at Camp Curtin near Harrisburg and mustered there as Private, Company H, 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry on 23 October.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the arm in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was "not accounted for" on the 1865 muster-out roll for his Company.
