Before Antietam

He enlisted in Company I, 64th New York Infantry on 9 September 1861 at age 24, and mustered as Corporal. He was promoted to Sergeant on 1 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the left arm in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 11 October (to date from 20 September) 1862. He was discharged in April 1863 for disability.
