Before Antietam
Age 22, he enlisted on 14 September 1861 in Centre County and mustered as Private, Company D, 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry on 16 October in Harrisburg.
On the Campaign
He was wounded, with contusion to the ankle, in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was "not accounted for" at the Company muster-out on 30 June 1865.
