A 24 year old coppersmith, he enlisted on 97 May 1861 in Buffalo, NY to serve two years, and mustered in on 20 May as a Private in Company G, 21st New York Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
