Age 20, he enlisted in Company H, First Texas Infantry on 20 March 1862 at Kickapoo, TX.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the hip in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and held at Fort Delaware. He died there of an inflammation of the lungs on 14 April 1865.
