Age 42 years, he enlisted 25 September 1861 at Brooklyn, to serve three years, and mustered in as Private, Company E, 69th New York Infantry on 7 October.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the groin and left thigh in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at hospitals in Frederick, MD, and Philadelphia, PA, but died 24 March 1863 at a general hospital, Washington, DC.
