He enrolled as 3rd Lieutenant, Company I, First Texas Infantry when the Company mustered into Confederate service on 24 June 1861 in New Orleans. He was elected Captain, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the head in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 30 October 1862, probably in Shepherdstown, VA (now WV).
