Age 27 years, he enlisted 16 October 1861 at Jersey City, NJ, to serve unexpired term of two years. He mustered in as Private, Company K, 34th New York Infantry the same date. He was promoted Corporal and reduced again to Private, dates not stated.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the head in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He mustered out with his Company on 30 June 1863 at Albany, NY.
