A 21 year old shoe maker from Marblehead, he enlisted in Company H, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry on 25 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the head in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the Showman Farm Hospital, Sharpsburg, but died of wounds on 19 September 1862.
