Before Antietam

In 1860 he was an 18 year old farmer in Stafford, Tolland County, CT. He enlisted as a Private in Company I, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 11 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by gunshot to his right side in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 28 September and was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 24 October. He was discharged there for disability on 15 December 1862.

After the War

By 1880 he was a dyer in Monson, MA. In 1900 he was a teamster, and in 1910 was a laborer doing odd jobs there.
