From Hartland, he enlisted as a Private in Company E, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 23 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He transferred to the 41st Company, 2nd Battalion, Veteran Reserve Corps on 8 August 1863 and was discharged on 5 August 1865.
