He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He reenlisted on 1 January 1864 ad transferred to Company I, 36th Massachusetts Infantry 21 October 1864. He was sent to Company F, 56th Massachusetts Infantry on 8 June 1865 and mustered out in Alexandria, VA on 12 July 1865.
