Before Sharpsburg

Age 27, he enlisted as 2nd Sergeant of Company K, First Texas Infantry when they organized in San Augustine County, TX in mid-1861 and mustered into Confederate service with them near Richmond, VA on 11 October 1861. He was reduced to Private in August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, at Chickamauga, GA on 19 September 1863 and was paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 12 April 1865.
