Before Antietam
A 29 year old lawyer in Bloomfield, IN, he enrolled and mustered on 7 June 1861 as Captain of Company D, 14th Indiana Infantry, his commissioned dated 11 June. He was appointed Major on 11 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the hand in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 22 January 1863 and may have been appointed Colonel after the death of Colonel Coons in May 1864. He mustered out with the regiment on 20 June 1864.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1910 he practiced law and farmed at Bloomfield, IN.
