Before Antietam

He enlisted at age 22 in Company D, 13th New Jersey Infantry on 8 August 1862 and mustered as Private. He transferred to Company I on 25 August. He was detailed as regimental armorer 4 September 1862 (to 9 September 1863).

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Regiment at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

In April 1865 he suffered a "scalded foot" and was sent to the hospital at Fort Schuyler, NY, then Ward Hospital, Newark, where he was discharged 27 July 1865.
