Before Antietam

A mason from Newark, NJ, he enlisted at age 34 in Company D, 13th New Jersey Infantry on 8 August 1862 and mustered as Private.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded in the left hand in action at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863. He was treated at the hospital at Aquia Creek, VA, then at King Street Hospital, Alexandria, VA. He transferred there to the Invalid (Veteran Reserve) Corps on 15 February 1864, and was discharged in Washington, DC on 27 June 1865.

After the War

By 1873 he had resumed his trade as a mason in Newark. In May 1881 he began receiving a small monthly Federal pension for his wound.
