Before Antietam

He enlisted at age 18 in Company D, 13th New Jersey Infantry on 11 August 1862 and mustered as Private.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was sent to a hospital in Washington, DC, sick, on 20 October 8162. He returned to duty in March 1863. In April he was again in a hospital, this time at Fairfax Seminary, VA, returning 28 February 1864. 21 May 1864 he was detailed as acting Hospital Steward, and was promoted to that position 1 July 1864. He mustered out of service with his regiment on 8 June 1865.

After the War

He graduated in 1870 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, City of New York. He was a practicing physician (M.D.) and ran a pharmacy in Chatham, NJ.
