He enlisted at age 28 in Company D, 13th New Jersey Infantry on 14 August 1862 and mustered as Private.
On the Campaign
He was in action with his Company at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
In January 1863 he was sent to the hospital at Frederick, MD, sick, and then to Camp Convalescent, Alexandria, VA. He was discharged for disability there on 21 March 1863.
