Before Antietam

Age 21, from Tremont, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 10th Maine Infantry on 25 September and mustered on 4 October 1861. He was wounded in the arm in action at Cedar Mountain, VA on 8 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the hip in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was absent wounded to at least 2 November 1862, when he was listed absent without leave. He enlisted as Private, Company C, 15th Maine Infantry on 12 January 1863. He was wounded and captured in action, probably at Pleasant Hill, LA, on 9 April 1864, and mustered out of service on 5 July 1866.

After the War

He applied for an invalid pension on 7 November 1865, which was granted.
