He was slightly wounded in the head in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

He was promoted to Corporal, date not given, and mustered out with his Company on 8 May 1863.
After the War
He owned and operated an express (mail) business from about 1870 to at least 1886. He was on the Biddeford, ME City Council in 1878.
