A 20 year old shoemaker from Georgetown, he enlisted 26 July 1861 in Company C, 19th Massachusetts Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for wounds on 15 November 1862 at Harrisburg, PA. He reenlisted, on 23 June 1864, in Company F, 13th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps in Boston. He mustered out as Corporal on 13 November 1865.
