Before Sharpsburg
He was a civil engineer in Tensas Parish, LA in 1860. He enlisted as Private, Company D, 6th Louisiana Infantry on 4 June 1861. He was an orderly for General Ewell at First Winchester, and appointed Lieutenant and Engineering Officer on the General's staff on 6 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Captain on 4 October 1862 and assigned to General Early's staff on 11 December. He returned to General Ewell in June 1863. He was again wounded, in the back at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863, and captured there on 5 July. He was paroled on 26 May 1865.
After the War
He was Chief engineer of Louisiana from 1885 to his death in 1909.
