Before Sharpsburg

He mustered in New Orleans as Private in Company B, First Texas Infantry on 16 May 1861 and was on recruiting duty in Texas from February to April 1862. He was wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June and at 2nd Manassas on 30 August 1862, then transferred to Company M.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the leg in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed regimental Ordnance Sergeant on 15 August 1863 and served as such to at least October 1864.
