Age 27, he enlisted in Company B, 20th New York Infantry on 3 May 1861 in New York City. He was promoted to Corporal on 11 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in Maryland with his Company but died of disease at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 30 October 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown but may have been reinterred elsewhere at a later date.
